e were lied into a war without cause; wholly unnecessary. There is no winning this war and our President has no strategy for even containing the mess he has unleashed. Last January when Mr.Bush announced his troop increase he also announced that he would "use America's full diplomatic resources to rally support for Iraq from nations throughout the Middle East." Have you seen any sign of this happening? The so-called surge began fully nine months ago and since that time the number of Iraqis leaving their homes as refugees has increased dramatically. He is now, by his own words, envisioning a military commitment that will continue for years to come. This week's address to the nation and world from the Oval office could easily have been delivered any of the past five years. He claimed that he is proposing enlisting the help of France, Germany and Britain. I hope so. If he is trying to end the war, maybe he should stop threatening Iran and Syria and practice diplomacy. I know a question I'd like very much to be able to ask the President, the Vice President (remember Cheney?) and Republicans like Rudy Giuliani and John McCain; how do you envision victory in Iraq and how do you intend to achieve it? In the President's address he made it amply clear that the resolution will not be accomplished during the remainder of his term in office. That's to be left to whoever replaces him. Mr.Bush has failed and when he mentioned in his speech on Thursday that the aftermath of our withdrawal would be extremely bloody and frightening, he was correct. However if we stay and continue to fight for years, Iraq is certain to become even more bloody. Congress must take real action and use its power to demand change and to expose the truth.
