Michael_Jackson_Talk_RadioCapitalt would appear, to judge by the press and TV coverage that Senators Obama and Clinton are receiving, that it has boiled down to a two candidate campaign. Wrong! John Edwards the former vice-presidential candidate is as well positioned as the celebrity senators from New York and Illinois.. Edwards, champion of the left, could very possibly slip by Clinton and Obama. The former trial lawyer from North Carolina is gaining popularity among the Democratic party's internet community because of his clear positioning as the candidate of the left. As an aside I think he almost certainly gained support from many who were offended by the loud mouthed comment of the Republican hairy hockey-stick Ann Coulter; she called him a "faggot". One thing he will have to overcome is the apparent fact that his charisma does not match the level of the front-runners. His best hope may well be that Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama target each other so strongly during the campaign that he is able to get between the two and possibly win the nomination.

Michael_Jackson_Talk_RadioU.S. attorneys are the chief federal law enforcement officers in 93 districts nationwide. They are responsible for leading investigations and prosecuting violations of federal law.The current controversy over the justice department's dismissal of eight U.S. attorneys has turned the spotlight on the generally quiet process by which the federal government selects its top prosecutors. They aren't like judges who, once elevated to the bench, are supposed to be entirely divorced from the political process. It is understandable that a new President (and Bush is not that) to remove all U.S. attorneys who served a previous administration, it's quite another matter for the White House to monitor their political fealty of its own appointees and to seek to remove any they deem to be the slightest bit disloyal. The Los Angeles Times had a quote from a plainspoken Republican from Oklahoma who put it succinctly. Speaking of the way in which the story of their firing has been handled by the White House, the Senator said that the handling of the U.S. attorneys "shows an idiocy on the part of the administration".
Michael_Jackson_Talk_RadioIt is time for the Attorney General to resign. He should step down as America's top lawyer. He is meant to be the people's lawyer, not the president's. The revelations of the past few days about the firing of U.S. prosecutors and violations of US civil liberties by the FBI have clearly demonstrated Mr. Gonzales' disdain for the people, the Congress and the justice system that is the backbone of American democracy.
Michael_Jackson_Talk_RadioThe Financial Times headlined their lead editorial this way: "Apologist for the imperial presidency" - Albert Gonzales should step down as America's top lawyer.
